Town Council: Agenda – May 4th

The Council meeting begins at 3 pm via Zoom. We might be seeing a shift here moving forward to in person and I, for one, have enjoyed the accessibility of Zoom.

The meeting starts with four proclamations and a specific one near and dear to me, the Proclamation recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride month with a raising of the Pride flag for the month of June. Very proud of our Town to do this! The Consent Calendar holds some great information for grants to assist with emergency power for the Community Center, which means it will continue to be a resource during times of need. Measure S oversight will discuss the status of funding for housing in Yountville. This is related to the Transit Occupancy Tax (TOT) increased in Yountville for visitors staying at the hotels to help fund our housing needs.

Then the fun begins… Use Permit Request, Cornerstone Cellars for a tasting room in a retail space. This is for the old JCB Senses space and would mean that the Council would need to change the Use to allow a tasting room. As you all know from our In-Depth User Permit article, a Use runs with the land, so any change is forever. Another tasting room in Yountville? We have many empty storefronts, so why say no? This will be an interesting discussion to understand how the Council members view business moving forward in Yountville.

The Council will then discuss the next phase of water-saving measures for our community, an all too familiar discussion. Then Lease renewal of the post office. Did you know the Town owns that property and lease it back to the government? I am interested to hear how Parks and Rec want two proceed with a Master Plan process. Then I believe they will be ending on a positive note with the monthly financial report; maybe we can be cautiously optimistic.
