At the Town Council meeting last week and then at the Kiwanis meeting, I heard long-time resident Debbie Alter-Starr speak to her direct experience with the war in Ukraine via her son, Aaron. He lives in Ukraine and recently crossed the border into Poland. Her stories of the families and friendships that they have all established hit close to home as we gain a direct connection to what is happening “so far away.” Aaron and two US college students, all from Ukraine, who spoke via video at the Council meeting, were poignant and telling.
