Wild Fires Devastated 2020 Wine Crop

Wildfires clobbered California wine grape crop in 2020. Here’s a brief summary on how much was lost.

The drop from 2019 was the equivalent of more than 80 million gallons of wine down the drain, according to analysis by Novato wine broker Turrentine Brokerage. Exposure to the smoke in the air was a main cause of the damage.

The 2020 average price of all varieties was $674.72, down 16.8% from 2019. Average price for red wine grapes was $791.33, down 22.4% from 2019; white wine grapes, $554.74, down 5.9% from 2019. 46,903 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon were crushed in Napa compared to 81,810 tons in 2019, a 42% decrease. Overall prices were brought down by the shutdowns of restaurants and wineries
