Retail Cannabis Comes to Napa

On a 4-1 vote last Tuesday night, the Napa City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance change allowing adult-use sales to anyone age 21 and older. The law will take effect 30 days following the amendment’s second reading, scheduled for a future council meeting. Shoppers will now not need a medical marijuana card.

Previously, only medical marijuana sales were permitted in Napa, according to the 2017 regulation. The city’s six dispensaries only sell cannabis goods to those with a doctor’s recommendation and a cannabis usage card. Some business owners shared their approval as it will lessen the customer’s financial and logistical barrier, which will bring them a boost in sales.

Among the other concerns discussed at the virtual conference were implementing the labor peace agreement requirement, notably for stores with 20 or more non-supervisory staff, and a proposal for a two-year moratorium on new adult-use applications.
