Water Restrictions to Begin July 1st

Providing a necessary reminder of drought conditions, the Town will be enforcing water conservation measures as of July 1st. Message boards were deployed around Yountville and will be moved around to different locations each week to start outreach and education. The Town’s goal is to reduce water usage by no less than 100 Acre Feet. To give some perspective, an Acre Foot is 325,851 gallons of water!

Beginning July 1, the following water restrictions are mandatory:

  • No use of potable water to wash down sidewalks and driveways
  • No watering outdoor landscapes in a manner that causes excess runoff
  • No washing of motor vehicles with a hose, unless the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle
  • Outdoor irrigation with potable water delivered by the Town of Yountville Distribution system only allowed between 6 P.M. and 10 A.M. to reduce evaporation loss, with an odd/even address watering schedule (odd addresses water Tuesday and Friday and even water Monday and Thursday).
  • No irrigation allowed any day between the hours of 10 A.M. and 6 P.M.
  • Irrigation not permitted during or 48 hours after measurable rainfall. (defined as 1⁄4″ in a calendar day (mid-night to mid-night))
  • No operating a non-recirculating fountain or decorative water feature
  • Filling of drained or new swimming pools cannot use domestic water
  • Newly permitted pools and spas must be equipped with an installed cover prior to final inspection
  • Newly constructed homes must install drip or micro-spray systems and drought tolerant landscape
  • No watering of park medians without a drip irrigation system
  • Hotels and motels must display notice of option to reuse towels and linens changes only at guest request
  • No non-commercial washing of privately owned vehicles or equipment except from a bucket and hose equipped with an automatic shutoff nozzle
